La Bourse
More than just heritage, a new venue for the people of Brussels to meet and explore
La Bourse, a magnificent building that was originally conceived as a home to the financial markets, has currently been transformed into a recreational place for public use. Positioned in the heart of Brussels it recalls Belgian history. From its cellars to its spectacular roof terrace, La Bourse underwent a thorough renovation and it now accomodates Belgian Beer World. In addition, the building comprises spaces for young and old, refreshments and dining options an archeaological museum, co-working spaces, a shop and much more.
The Bourse, icon of yesterday
The Bourse building is regarded as one of the most symbolic buildings in Brussels. With its imposing architecture. Designed by the Belgian architect, Léon-Pierre Suys between 1868 and 1873, the Bourse is considered a true marvel of 19th century neoclassical style. This building, from where the Stock Exchange operated until 1996, was an important commerce and trading center for decades. Furthermore, it was the site of heroic action: during the First World War, the Bourse district of the city was the epicenter of the clandestine press, a symbol of the Belgian resistance against the occupier.
The Bourse, icon for today
The Bourse has subsequently been renovated to host temporary exhibitions and events. However, it is especially famous for being an iconic meeting place for the people of Brussels and Belgium: it served as a beacon for protests, celebrations ( for our "Red Devils" national soccer team!), events and concerts, and of course sometimes even heartbreaking commemorations... the Belgian Bourse has been the backdrop for many noteworthy events.
The Bourse, icon for the future
The Bourse building represents much more than just heritage. Following its spectacular transformation, it is now even more of a vibrant meeting place for the people of Brussels and a must-see site for Belgian and international tourists. Welcome to the Bourse !
